Celebrating Black Chiptune Artists for Black History Month

We are a collection of chiptune lovers that wanted to celebrate and highlight Black chiptune artists during the month of February, which is recognized as Black History Month. This Friday, February 6th, 2026, Bandcamp is waiving their fees from all sales and musicians on the platform will receive, outside of credit processing fees, more of your purchase to support them. Most of these performers are on Bandcamp, a service to purchase music and merchandise from artists directly to support them. Bandcamp may not be a perfect platform, but does provide independent artists with significantly more revenue than streaming services could possibly provide, even outside of Bandcamp Friday. As changes to the most popular streaming services happen, at this time, many niche performers, such as chiptune artists are not receiving any royalties for their work and even worse, are being copied and having their work stolen by genAI (generative artificial intelligence). Bandcamp has made their stance clear that no genAI is allowed on their service. Outside of direct support (i.e. giving money directly into the hands of these artists), this is one of the most effective ways to support independent black artists directly and keep the music going. If you are catching this after February 6th, the next Bandcamp Fridays for 2026 will be:
• March 6th
• May 1st
• August 7th
• September 4th
• October 2nd
• November 6th
• December 4th
This is not meant to be an exhaustive list as chiptune artists aren't all necessarily on Bandcamp. We're more than happy to add more artists! To be clear, we are not affiliated with Bandcamp. Our solidarity is to the chiptune makers and lovers -- and ensuring that artists, especially Black artists, get their due support.
